The Case for Water
Clean water has no substitute and is required for life.
Water is experiencing a growing supply-demand imbalance. Less than 1% of the Earth’s water is potable and the World Resources Institute (WRI) projects a 56% deficit in water supply by 2030. Rising population growth and living standards are key drivers of demand, while rainwater supply remains static and unevenly distributed.
Capital needs are driven by demand for infrastructure and new technologies that address pressing global water issues. Global issues include the exploitation of natural resources, pollution, population growth, extreme weather patterns, and access to safe, clean water.
Moreover, the need for water-related investment is not limited to the developing world. Over the next decade, billions of dollars will be spent on water infrastructure in Europe and the United States, where demand for water outpaces supply. This demand is driven by urbanization, the expansion of agriculture, and more water-intensive consumption as living standards continue to rise.
